The Referral Coordinator for the Endocrinology practice is responsible for managing and coordinating patient referrals and authorizations related to endocrine disorders, including diabetes, thyroid conditions, osteoporosis, adrenal and pituitary disorders. This role ensures referrals are processed accurately and efficiently while supporting continuity of care and exceptional patient service..
Key Responsibilities
Patient Check-Out
- Check patients out after their medical visit in a timely and professional manner
- Schedule follow-up appointments and reschedule, procedures, and testing as directed by the provider
- Review visits summaries and ensure all required documentation is complete
- Collect copays, deductibles, and outstanding balances when applicable
- Provide patients with instructions related to referrals, follow-ups, and billing questions Insurance Eligibility
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits prior to or at the time of check-out
- Confirm coverage for visits, procedures, imaging, and referrals
- Identify insurance discrepancies and communicate issues to patients clearly
- Document eligibility verification accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Fill in gaps in provider schedule, answer phones when needed, assist check in as needed.
Referrals
- Process provider-ordered referrals in a timely and accurate manner
- Submit referral requests to insurance companies and follow payer guidelines
- Track referral status and follow up as needed
- Communicate referral requirements and responsibilities to patients
- Maintain accurate referral documentation and ensure completion
Administrative & Compliance Duties
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Communicate effectively with providers, clinical staff, billing, and insurance companies
- Handle patient inquiries related to referrals, eligibility, and follow-up care
- Maintain organized records and ensure accuracy in the EMR system

Work Environment / Schedule
- Onsite / Monday to Friday – 7:30am-4pm

- The work environment is fast paced, with frequent telephonic interactions with patients and staff.
